Starting Point
Welcome to the middle of nowhere!
The is a rather ordinary story about myself. Other specific information which might interest you is probably related to my research interests and teaching experiences. Other than that, this website has my random notes which you may or may not find interesting.
My name is Adila Alfa Krisnadhi. I joined the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Indonesia in January 2003 as a lecturer. My research interests encompass areas related with semantic web, knowledge representation, automated reasoning and intelligent systems. I have taught several undergraduate courses and supervised several undergraduate thesis projects.
As of September 2010, I am a PhD student at the Knoesis Center, a Ohio Center of Excellence attached to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Wright State University which is located nearby Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A. I mainly work under supervision of Prof. Pascal Hitzler. My stay in the U.S. is supported by the Fulbright Foreign Student Grant – Indonesia Presidential Scholarship Program 2010. Information about Fulbright Programs for Foreign Students can be found here. Also, information that are specific to Fulbright programs for Indonesian can be obtained from AMINEF.
Previously, I also studied at the International Master Program in Computational Logic (CL) from October 2004 to March 2007. This program is affiliated with the International Center of Computational Logic at the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden), Germany, which is led by Prof. Steffen Hölldobler. This program was also one of the first programs that were funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus Programme under the name of European Master in Computational Logic (EMCL). In Dresden, I worked, both for CL project and master thesis, in Prof. Franz Baader‘s Automata Theory Group which is a part of Institute of Theoretical Computer Science, TU Dresden. My direct supervisor was Dr. Carsten Lutz whom is now the Professor of Theory of Artificial Intelligence in Universität Bremen. My stay in Germany was funded by DAAD scholarship and AsiaLink program. DAAD Jakarta office’s website is here.
I am also an alumnus of Universitas Indonesia wherefrom I got a bachelor degree in computer science in 2002. My bachelor thesis work was supervised by Prof. Benyamin Kusumoputro and my academic advisor was Prof. T. Basaruddin. Further references about me can also be provided by Dr. L.Y. Stefanus and Dr. Wisnu Jatmiko.
I was a member of Indonesian Team to the 39th International Mathematical Olympiad in Taipei, 1998.
For non-serious stuff, I am an avid soccer fan, especially Manchester United. I also love reading science fiction and fantasy novels as well as some Japanese Manga.

Pak Adila yth,
I’ve just read your blog, and come to know that u re a fulbrighter.
I’d like to ask for your advice regarding fulbright’s scholarship, since I am invited to Fulbright’s interview next week for master program’s scholarship.
Form your experience, Is there anything specific which I should prepare for the interview?
Would you mind giving me detailed description about what might happen during that one hour interview (based on your experience)?
Frankly, I am kinda nervous to face this coming interview
Thank you for your time and generous answer.
salam kenal.
Erwin

I don’t know in your case since I am in the PhD program, not the master program. However, the following should be useful for general guidelines.
There will be usually two or three American and two Indonesian interviewer. The questions most likely come from essays you submitted in your application. They will also ask about why you choose to go the US and why your study must be done in the US, i.e., why US and not do that in Indonesia or other countries. Don’t just answer because US is the best or something vague like that. You should be more precise and elaborate with your answer.
Other questions would be related with what you’re going to do in the US, both academically and non-academically (e.g., what you think you can do to promote mutual understanding between Indonesians and Americans). They will probably ask what kind of research you’re going to embark during your study and also ask your reasons and motivation. They will also ask about what you’re going to do after you’re done with your study. Are you going to contribute something to the society? What kind of contributions do you intend to make with knowledge and experience you gain during your study? They may also relate their questions with current issues, so you should be prepared to answer this kind of questions.
Regarding research questions, I’m not sure how deep it’s going to be for master program, but I don’t think it will be as deep as questions for PhD program. In any case, be prepared.
For general tips, I would recommend to talk slowly and not to rush. This often happens if you’re nervous, so when entering the interview room, start by greeting the interviewers. Pay attention to the one who ask you a question and look at him/her in the eye. Wait him/her to finish the question and then start answering. If you’re not sure or the question is not clear, ask him/her politely to repeat the question or clarify it. Next, when answering, speak slowly. Use shorter sentences. Avoid using complicated languages in explaining important points in your answer.
By the way, don’t forget to pray before entering the room. If you’re a muslim, it might help by taking a wudhuu (ablution) beforehand.
Hopefully this helps. Good luck!
